I'm not sure of your hardware, but the 5.11 kernel is supposed to be faster on AMD CPUs.

5.11.0 fixed my problem with not having any picture through Thunderbolt 4. That's hugely important to me.

Though, I now have trouble with VirtualBox. To get vboxdrv.ko to build, I had to edit vboxnetflt/linux/VBoxNetFlt-linux.c to add "#include <linux/ethtool.h>" after "#include <linux/netdevice.h>". (Reference)

Nice, I'm on the btusb driver and my bluetooth has been broken since the 5.10 series landed in -current, so hopefully 5.10.18 has the goods!

5.11.1 built and running on Slackware64-14.2.
Used a modified config from testing on current.
Still had to modify .config to :
# CONFIG_INTEL_IDXD is not set
To get it to build, guess I should research reason.

Seems someone is already addressing the issue
" If unsure, say N. "

Found this in idxd-config/accfg.spec.in
Code:
Requires:	LNAME%{?_isa} = %{version}-%{release}
BuildRequires:	autoconf
BuildRequires:	asciidoc
BuildRequires:	xmlto
BuildRequires:	automake
BuildRequires:	libtool
BuildRequires:	pkgconfig
BuildRequires:	pkgconfig(libkmod)
BuildRequires:	pkgconfig(uuid)
BuildRequires:	pkgconfig(json-c)
BuildRequires:	systemd
if it needs systemd why does it build on current?

CONFIG_INTEL_IDXD is needed only for xeon:
Quote:
CONFIG_INTEL_IDXD

Enable support for the Intel(R) data accelerator present in Intel Xeon CPU.

Say Y if you have such a platform.
If unsure, say N.
the part:
Quote:
If unsure, say N.
was there for as long as I remember: I don't have xeon CPU, never had IDXD compiled.

assuming that most users do not have xeon CPU, removing this is not a big deal because non xeon cpu has no use for it.

That is what customizing kernel config is for: tailor config for specific hardware/software needs.

Then, one of my CPUs is an E3 1225 V2 Xeon with integrated VGA running 3.2 GHz at modest 65W TDP - wonder how much of a difference would that option make on it (non ECC motherboard)?

Unfortunately Bluetooth still doesn't work for me on 5.10.18

inxi:
Code:
Lite-On Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth type: USB driver: btusb
dmesg:
Code:
[ 24.679778] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb
[ 24.679972] Bluetooth: hci0: don't support firmware rome 0x11020100
This looks relevant, and there may be a related fix here.

I can confirm. I still have to patch manually. At least I'm not alone. I hope they don't take another couple months to fix this. The one you posted was the only one that worked for me and have been using it since I found the patch on the web. All of the revisions did not work. Guess I'll be stuck on 5.11.0....

@drgibbon @PROBLEMCHYLD

If you have specific requests for patches to be backported, maybe contact Greg Kroah-Hartman. He recently posted about how people can help with LTS kernels, and one of the things he mentioned was backport requests.

See his blog post here: http://kroah.com/log/blog/2021/02/03...rnel-releases/
