We should really consider this move to FreeBSD either kernel or userland. I would love to use OSSv4, single /dev way and use pf firewall, which I heard is superior and simpler.

freebsd userland makes sense to me. i prefer bsd over gnu but the code contrib of gnu to kernel is just too much to switch. If debian has a freebsd kernel why doesnt slack use freebsd userbase the opposite makes more sense?
Even if Fedora uses it for themselves, Redhat is still more conservative. They only chose what they like from Fedora. As long as Redhat doesnt adopt it I think we should be OK. Imagine if Redhat adopted every craziness from Fedora. Have you ever tried Fedora Desktop? I find Fedora like a Clown distro, no offense. I tried it one time and i prefered ubuntu over it. It totally clogged up my system maybe due to my hardware though. But its nature its just trying new stuff. Its kind of like a geunie pig for Redhat.
Hold on to your hat. RHEL 7 is tied to the fedora 18 development, including systemd et al.
Maybe the Cure is to speed up BSD init in a way that does not compromise UNIX philosophy? Yea, I know... easier said then done.
That would not be sufficient. systemd not only replaces the init system, but from what I have read logging, udev, session-management and may be more in the future.

Playing devils advocate... Isn't that making things "simpler" for the user?

Not even close.
"This is the Unix philosophy: Write programs that do one thing and do it well. Write programs to work together. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface." -- Doug McIlroy, the inventor of Unix pipes and one of the founders of the Unix tradition
