I've tried using autofs, and after experimenting with it, it will auto mount my cdrom...yet it will not umount. So I figured maybe it was just autofs...so I patched my kernel, and recompiled it with supermount. I edited my fstab so that it uses supermount on /dev/hdd. It does automount...yet still the same issue that I had with autofs. It will not umount. I recently tried xandros linux for fun, and I really liked how when I would pop a cd in , it would automount, and when I hit the eject button, it would umount and eject. That is what I'm trying to do with slackware.
im Slack it can be done several ways.
First.
Do not use auto in fstab, for example
/dev/hdd /mnt/CD-RW iso9660 noauto,users,ro 0 0
I assume that you will create the corresponding directory on /mnt
then
#su
#chmod 666 /dev/hdd*
Other way is to chmod your scsi emulation /dev/sr0
Supermount works fine for me. I don't think there should be any permission problems. Supermount does the mounting and unmounting, and it's part of the kernel so it has full permissions (I think).
After further tweaking I got supermount working very nicely . One more question, how could I make it so when I pop a cd in, and close the drive...konqueror will open up in the /mnt/cdrom directory? I know certain distros do this automatically.
I don't HAVE to have it work this way, but it would be cool!
