suggestiond of good hardware that is compatiable with slackware

I am new to linux and I have decided to use slackware. my question is I want to build a computer with slackware but I don't know what hardware is compatiable. I don't want to spend alot of money on this machine but I would like it to run nice. If anyone could give me some advice I would be gratefull

Stay away from newer stuff as there is a chance that there wont be drivers/modules for it. Anything over a year old is a good bet IMO.

Define run nice :}

What are your demands of the machine? Does run nice mean:
a) can edit ASCII in a console
b) can use OpenOffice, create documents with lots of embedded graphics
c) can edit DVD-size movie files
d) can serve up web-pages with 10,000.00 concurrent connections retrieving images from an SQL database ...
e) ...

;}

Cheers,
Tink

Well, anything in the weight-class of a Piv 1.8GHz or above
with 512MB RAM and a fast HDD will do all of that quite happily.

My main workstation at home is an R32 Thinkpad with those specs
(and the notebook hdds aren't exactly famous for their speed ;}).

Cheers,
Tink
