Stupid Mouse Wheel...

I have no idea why my stupid mouse wheel isn't working. When I installed Slack before I got it working no prob... I'm using a USB Logitech MX500

When I cat /dev/input/mouse0
I only get output from movement and the left and mouse button
and pushing in the scroll button (middle click)

I've tried with Buttons 5 and mapping 4 5 as well...
I've tried Protocol ExplorerPS/2 too

Actually the *Option "Buttons" "5"* line is optional.

When the system loads, I have gpm configured like this:
gpm -m /dev/input/mice -t imps2

Seems like the trouble is in your protocol line, try to change it. If it doesn't work, I can't help you anymore

You can test the mouse buttons with the program /etc/X11R6/bin/xev . Once you start this program a box open, move the mouse cursor inside the box and start pressing the buttons, you will see which button is presse in the console windows.

Also, have you got an existing .Xmodmap in your user directory that is interfering with your setup?

use /dev/input/mice for USB mice.

How many scroll wheels? If one then try /dev/mouse ZAxisMapping 4 5 then Buttons 5 in appropriate places. If 2nd wheel then need buttons 7. If mouse works without scrolling then making above changes to /etc/X11/xorgconf and rebooting should work. Good luck.
