stuck with vesa; intel video drivers on 13.37 stock, 945GME (Eee PC box)

I have xorgsetup but this provides the "intel" driver,
X performance is worse with this (mouse input appears jittery)

no modules for "945GM" as described on intel/linux support site

Anyone documented any success with using "945GM" on the this hardware?

I am getting glxgears fps ~59.99 (refresh rate is 60Hz)
However I have LinuMint-13 and its' compiz performance is much smoother than slacks and is not using vesa either.
But I appear to be stuck with vesa with slackware-13.37
(using stock install and kernel)

I guess your problem is that stock 13.37 video drivers are kinda outdated.
You could try using the mesa package in the testing/ directory of the install medium, but I don't think it'll change much.
Could you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (between code tags, please)?
Also, consider migrating to slackware-current (which is in 14.0 RC3 status ATM).

I can't help as I don't have your hardware but can you show your card specs

Code:
lspci -vvv
copy and paste just your video specs pls

2) have you tried the frame buffer driver i810?

I run Slackware -current on a Samsung NC10 with the same graphics chip and it works fine. It should also work fine with 13.37, your video-chip is rather old and well supported.
Maybe try to upgrade to -current (it is already in RC3 state, so will be released soon).

I have the same 945GME graphics on an eMachines eM250 netbook. It runs well without any xorg.conf in either 13.37 or 14-RC3.
The only settings I provide for X are customised touchpad settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
