Strange Looking Tux @ Boot

alright this is not major, I have a Compaq laptop running Slack 10 everything is going great I even have DRI and GLX working with my video card. My question/Problem is when I boot up the laptop my Penguin logo in the corner has several lines in it, not lines of text but vertical lines. If I had to describe it as something I would describe it as smears on a piece of paper, throughout the logo. I can post whatever is requested but don't know what would help at this point. It isn't major but I was only curious if someone has seen this before and could help me figure it out.

Try this...

Hi, I've had similar problems, and the way I have fixed it was in the lilo configuration file (/etc/lilo.conf)
You can try editing the framebuffer modes. For instance, a few lines of my /etc/lilo.conf file look like:

# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
vga = 791
# Normal VGA console
# vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
# vga=790
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga=773
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k
# vga=788
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k

You can try and comment out the "vga = 791" and uncomment another vga number. For example change the above to:

# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga = 791
# Normal VGA console
# vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
vga=790
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga=773
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k
# vga=788
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k

Good luck!
(Oh yeah, and while experimenting with this, you may get totally unreadable startup stuff, dont worry if this happens, just let it continue booting then change the framebuffer setting again until one works good. And make sure you remember
what your framebuffer was before you started tweeking it. Make a backup of lilo.conf or something)

I tried changing that around and it does not fix it I tried everything from normal through the end. I just thought I would see if anyone had seen this before it wasn't important so I think I'll keep it the way it is and just live with a strange pic....

I think wakeras has a point. If you run /sbin/lilo after editing lilo.conf, then with it set to 'vga=normal' you shouldn't see the tux logo at all.

Try it again, and run /sbin/lilo after each time you edit lilo.conf.

Enjoy!
