strange laptop issue

i just noticed that my laptop is producing a very low audible tone/beep. what's odd is that the noise seems to stop whenever the system receives input from either the keyboard or the mouse. for example, if i move the mouse around or hold down a key on the keyboard, the tone/beep will stop. but when i release the key or stop moving the mouse the beeping starts again.

i rebooted into windows and didn't have the same problem so it is definately a linux issue.

i'm running slackware 10.2 with a custom 2.6.13 kernel on a toshiba tecra s1.

any ideas on what this might be and how i might go about fixing it?

yeah now that you mention it, that happened when i was running off the battery. i've plugged in the ac adaptor since, and the noise has stopped. it might have something to do with acpi...
