What kind of problem do you have with fluxbox? Any error message?

If you want to make another wm your default wm (started with starx), go to /etc/X11/xinit. In your case there shold be softlink named xinitrc to xinitrc.fluxbox. Just remove this softlink and create another softlink to xinitrc.<some_wm>.

make sure that fluxbox will work first.

startx /usr/X11R6/bin/fluxbox

if that starts it, revert to reply #1

Upon further investigation, I found out that fluxbox has nothign to with it. X can't be displayed, but it is still running as a process under ps -A . I think that X is starting at an incompatible monitor resolution, how would I change the resolution in which x starts?

It might not even be my resolution, the screen just blanks. There was a similar post so I'll check that one too.
