Starting wireless at boot

For some reason my wireless cards will not associate at boot time. Im using 128-bit WEP. (I don't need the lecture about WEP security, thanks) I load this up and my ath0 device has the essid name in iwconfig but there is no MAC address only a "not associated".

I have this information within rc.inet1.conf
Quote:
# Config information for ath0:
IFNAME[1]="ath0"
IPADDR[1]=""
NETMASK[1]=""
USE_DHCP[1]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[1]="dd-wrt"
WLAN_KEY[1]="KEY1024370128374"
WLAN_ESSID[1]=DARKSTAR
It works when I perform these steps:
Quote:
#ifconfig ath0 up
#ifconfig key restricted KEY1024370128374
#ifconfig essid DARKSTAR
#dhcpcd ath0
Only after I perform these steps does it connect and properly receive a IP address. What am I missing? And how can I get it to automatically DHCPCD to the gateway for a IP.

Im sorry the ESSID and DHCP names should be the same. Both are dd-wrt NOT darkstar.
