Starting Intel Net Card In Slack 9.1 On Desktop

I am running Slackware on my desktop that has an Intel card built in, I don't know why, but slack 9.1 does not seem to be using it..

When I installed slack I set-up all my IP information, and then I checked them after I found out that the internet was not loading, I am not sure what to do next..

I figure that maybe the card is not being read, I want an easy way to check all of that, and to get all of that going.

BTW: I am currently using KDE on that machine.. but I want my settings to stay the same no matter what desktop enviroment I go into..

Most likely the module you need to support the card is not being loaded.

Enter "lspci" as root to see the cards in your pci slots (I am assuming it is a pci
nic card). You should see something that looks like the chipset on your Intel card.

To see if the module is loaded enter "lsmod" (It likely will not be loaded)

Then go to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules with an editor and look for the network cards.
Remove the # from the Intel card you have to get the module to load at boot and
then save the file. (#/sbin/modprobe eepro to /sbin/modprobe eepro). Reboot and now when
you type lsmod you should see the card module and your card should work.

#
# 3com 3c501 (consider buying a new card, since the 3c501 is slow,
# broken, and obsolete):
#/sbin/modprobe 3c501

#/sbin/modprobe 3c503
# 3com 3c505:
#/sbin/modprobe 3c505

To be honest, I have never ran a editor, and so for that you are going to have to tell me what to do, here is a list of my editors that are on my computer:

Emacs
Kedit
Kwrite
Kate
Kommander Editor
Vi IMproved
X Editor
gEdit

For the lspci after using that command I do see my nic card, and line for that card reads

'00:0d:0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 0c)

Now I went even further, knowing alittle knowledge in KDE I checked the Info Center, under network Interfaces it shows my eth0 with the right IP, and the Right Subnet Mask, and it says Type: Broadcast, State: Up

Under that there is a second interface "lo" with a IP that is not on my network, and the subnet mask I have never heard of, with Type: Loopback State: Up

So I am not sure why the internet is not working..

UPDate: While looking at all of that, I figured that it was an IP problem, so since my network supports DHCP, I set it up using DHCP, did a quick reboot, and the internet it working great..

Thats for your help..
