Soundproblem after upgrading kde

I upgraded the standard kde from 9.1 with the new packages for kde 3.2.0 but after the upgradepkg *.tgz I had no sound in kde anymore.
What could have gone wrong?! Or how can I fix this problem???

You may have to play around with ALSA.

Whenever I do anything major to my machine like installing a new kernel or wm i end up usually having to rec-compile ALSA.

As KDE is still on 3.1 on slackware 9.1 the above could be your problem.

Did you check the system volumes in the KDE 'control panel? I've heard that on a reinstall it will reset those values to 0.

Of course, that was one of the first things I did. The strange thing is that root has sound, only the other users don't have sound. With the other use he complains something about permission denied and soundserver...

well, /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer are in the "sys" group
you may need to add your users to this group in order
for them to access/use these devices.............
