sound_problem

I can't run xmms and mplayer in the same time...i'm listening a melody in xmms, mplayer doesn't have sound...I can run them both in the same time with sound...another example is gaim and xmms...if i'm running xmms(or mplayer, or another program with sound) I don't have sound in gaim.
In kde is working but un Xfce, Gnome(dropline), WindowsMaker...doesn't work.
What do I have to do to work?
thank you

It works in KDE because of arts, kde's sound system (you can tune it in control center/sound & multimedia.

If your card cannot do hardware mixing you could enable software mixing: you can edit your alsa setting file. I never did it and can only tell you to google for examples: in linuxquestions there are other posts about the same subject, you can check here too.

Cheers,
Enrico.

You can also use the esd output plugin for xmms, for example. You can also select esd as the sound system to use in Gaim.
