smb.conf

It's been many years since I've messed with Slackware, trying to knock off the dust and rust from some old brain cells. I haven't set up Slackware since version 9.x
I need to edit the smb.conf file for Windoze connections. It should be in /etc/samba, shouldn't it? All I have is /private and smb.conf-sample. Is it located somewhere else or do I just remove the -sample and there it is?

You could copy smb.conf-sample to smb.conf (to keep the sample for later reference) and edit smb.conf to suit your needs.

Alternatively you could copy smb.conf-sample to smb.conf.source instead, edit to suit, use the testparm command to test it then, when there are no errors, run testparm smb.conf.source > smb.conf to create smb.conf (smb.conf is created when you press Enter). This has the advantage of creating a canonicalised smb.conf, stripped of comments which is faster for samba to load (it re-reads smb.conf each time a client connects).

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know if the location for the file had been changed for some reason.
As I said it's been many years, and the old Slack box finally died. So now it's on to newer/better things, time to relearn...

When you run testparm, the message "rlimit_max: rlimit_max (1024) below minimum Windows limit (16384)" is information, not an error and AFAIK does not require any action.

Nice sig!
