Small FOSS project idea for slackware (not a scam)
Hey,
Asking for -ideas- here and -feedback- on a project, not a scam. I tried clarifying that on the original thread's main message. I did not expect the response, so its great feedback in a way. Apologies for the confusion... and the response from the community is great in preventing scams.
Are there any projects or problems people would like worked on Slackware related? I am testing out a self-hosted FOSS project to help fund open-source work. I would be using Taler's KUDOS, but their demo bank is too unstable, so it uses -very- small amounts of BTC. I will not link to the project directly here to avoid confusion. Again, sorry for any confusion.
Some -ideas- are:
- a re-implementation of 'installpkg', 'removepkg', etc in Golang. Yes, very aware they are in bash, and work well
- something to help with automated updates.
P.S. Please donate directly to Pat for his work for Slackware
Look. If you're really serious about this, then just do it, release it, and don't start with trying to monetize it.
Thanks dugan, getting something minimally viable out first was my intent. I wanted to get feedback on what problems people wanted worked on before starting so as not to waste time.
As for monetization, well, not for the foreseeable future. A goal is to test the funding project (https://git.sr.ht/~cypher/librefund). To check if price signals work, does the collective funding aspect work, etc. We're talking around $0.50-$1.00 donations here. I'd make it cheaper, however BTC transaction costs are around $0.17 making lower amounts impractical.
Hi yes, I would like removepkg to be written in the Brainfuck language, but I need a couple of BTC for that.
Thanks!
For that amount, yes!

I'll start by splitting time between working on a project and supporting people on this forum. If anyone has ideas on stuff they'd like done, let me know. The code will be free and open source. Or any questions, hit me up here.

This! I suggest that you establish yourself as a trusted user here at LQ by giving back. Give sound technical support, and report bugs. Provide patches to bugs if you can.
