Big +1 to this. It is well proven that anything provided by Eric is of a very high quality standard.

Over the years, I've used many of Eric's Slackware packages. His repository is always my first port of call. The larger and more difficult items from there, (e.g: Multi-lib, Plasma 5, LibreOffice, Handbrake just to name a few) can always be relied upon to function correctly.

Another BIG +1 to this as well.

As a newbie since 13.37, you've helped me out immensely in transitioning from Ubuntu and Windows to straight Slackware with your wiki, multilib, and your library of pre-built packages. I can't thank you enough for your generosity. God bless you and your family in this time of need and may you have abundance 10 fold of what you have given us with your unselfish contributions.

Thank you!!!

I appreciate the packages he has provided, especially the multi-lib! He kindly gives and helps without the expectation of anything in return. He is the type of person a business should be interested in.

Eric, thanks for the packages and the help you have provided! Hopefully when you have a new job you will have more time for Slackware. In the meantime the Slackware community can manage while you focus on what is most important

all the best Eric,
this reminds me to work hard on not be to much depended from one company, and have always at least one plan B.
the sad fact that this narrows down time on Slackware is a side effect on this that I well know, on the other hand, seeing something new and from a different perspective can be also an interesting and gainful experience.
And who knows, the end of one phase in live is also the begin of a new one, but I understand that economic requirements make it hard to enjoy such transitions. But try to do it, who knows when you will ever again have the motivation and opportunity to recalibrate yourself

Dear Eric Hameleers, beyond of 10 years I used to use your Slackware related activity as "reference design" for my own one, thinking "I should be a builder as best like him!"

I was disappointed when I heard that one of my life models is on troubles, and I wish you all the best and to find quickly a new job, full of opportunities to ensure the financial safety for you and your family!

My bad, I misread dates. Corrected.

Nonetheless, thanks a lot. I read Patrick Volkerding's interview on Linux Questions and now reading this thread. Guys, your work is really inspiring.

Best of luck Eric in obtaining new employment. In your case though luck shouldn't have to come into it as your sheer ability should get you through.

Hi Eric,

it's a shame that a person with your well proven insight into linux will have to supply another piece of paper to show the evident. Good luck and all the best for your future career!

Eric —

I am sorry to hear this news.

Your essential contributions to the Slackware Community cannot be overstated.

Over the years, your Packages and Technical Support have have been absolutely essential for transforming Slackware Versions 10.0, 12.0, 13.37 and now 14.2 into Stable Productive Development Environments for me.

Not to mention the all contributions I have seen you make ‘upstream’ that we don’t necessarily hear about here in the LQ Slackware Community.

I am certain that you will land on your feet.

And any Company that is lucky enough to ‘land’ YOU will be better off for having you on their team.

You and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for all you have done and all that I am sure you will continue to do for the Community in the the future.

Hang in there Eric !

Best of luck, Eric! I will add my voice to the chorus of people thanking you for your tireless work supporting our favorite operating system, and I'm sure that with your work ethic and skills you will find an excellent job. It would be nice if you could somehow include all your Slackware development work in your resume.

Hi Eric,

I wish you the best of luck for you and your family.
Hopefully you'll find something to provide for your family and still leaves
you enough time to devote to your favorite hobbies.
I just concur with all that's been said about your invaluable contributions
to the slackware community.
I learned a tremendous amount from you.

I hope we'll learn some good news soon!

Again, best of luck

Mark
