Try to disable the special effects in kde

To change the wm

Fluxbox should rock with that hardware; xfce ought to be pretty good, as well. I've run both with less than you've got, with good results.

hello,
i think that fits pretty good in here. i want to install slackware, debian or ubuntu with xmbc for a movie player. how much space do i need minimum for the base system and x-server? i want to use a compact flash card on an ide adapter with 2, 4 or (i don't hope so) 8 gb.
