Slackware Linux on Mac mini 6,1 (2012 i5)

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get a Mac mini running Slackware64. I'm running into issues with the onboard NIC.

I have the Ethernet adapter via Thunderbolt working as well as WiFi. However, It seems that I can't get Thunderbolt Ethernet + onboard NIC to work at the same time.

I've read numerous threads about people running Ubuntu 12.4 or 12.10 and downloading the Broadcom source for the tg3(3.124c) driver and compiling it. They say it works for them but, noone mentions using Thunderbolt with the older kernels and from what I can tell, the drivers in the 3.7.1 kernel are newer than the ones on the Broadcom website.

Ubuntu 12.10 kernel 3.5 having 3.123 and the ones in 3.7.1 kernel having 3.125 and 3.8 rc2 having 3.128. The ones on the Broadcom website are 3.124, which makes sense from the 3.5 kernel point of view but they don't compile vs the 3.7.1 kernel sources, even after the few changes I found in a thread regarding ethtool_op_get_sg and ethtool_op_set_sg, which seems to be related to why it seems the driver doesn't support the card but did in previous versions: Support for deprecated functions being dropped and the drivers not accommodating the new API/facilities in the newer kernel.

I have tried Ubuntu 12.10 and I was able to get the Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter to work along with the WiFi - I don't really need WiFi, it's an added bonus. I tried for an afternoon to get the kernel sources and headers(were already installed) so that I could compile the 3.124 Broadcom drivers but gave up after a few hours with make prepare issues that seemed to lead to the wrong headers installed on a fresh install. It may be worth trying again, but I much prefer Slackware over Ubuntu.

Here are some PCI dumps for the devices I'm trying to get drivers working for:

Some of the threads I've read are the following:

Mac mini 6,2(2012 i7 non-server) - Kernel 3.2.x
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2078320

(I can't find others)

I'm really not interested in Ubuntu specific solution but will be trying to get it working this way later today.

try to upgrade to 3.4.24
download here
http://www.kernel.org/

and read http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...kernelbuilding

3.4 is long-term stable release from 2012 to 2014+

but if that don't work you better jump to 3.7

3.5 and 3.6 are not official maintained
