Slackware kernel upgrade to 2.6.x using XFS

I'm having some serious issues compiling an update to the standard 2.4 kernel on Slackware 10.2 to the latest 2.6 kernel using the XFS filesystem. I'm sure that I've selected the filesystem compiled into the kernel not as a module (XFS) and I've even tried to go the initrd route. What happens is that on a reboot of the new kernel, you can see that lilo loads up, then a blank screen with nothing and the computer just hangs there. It is defintely not loading anything up in the background - I am sure that I have chosen my graphics adapter correctly too with framebuffer enabled.

I'm using XFS because I'm planning to set up a Mythtv server.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried with Grub? Other than that I'm out of ideas. If you even have the initrd... Do you use the initrd and have the driver compiled in kernel. If they conflict with each other or something.

Never had any problem with XFS, neither with XFS and kernel 2.6.17.x (x > 7), with and without initrd. I would check for something else.

Can you briefly go through your process to get things up and running ok to see if I've missed anything?

This is really starting to annoy me. Compoiling support for XFS into the kernel doesn't work. Compiling as a module with initrd support doesn't appear to work either.

I've issued the command for the initrd image:

mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.17.11 -m exportfs:xfs -f xfs -r /dev/hda1

then added the line to load the image into the lilo.conf, then run /sbin/lilo -v (there are no errors)

This was after hours of looking to try install exportfs as a module, which I finally found can ce made as a module if you select nfsd as a module as it will automatically compile exportfs as a module too. It says that if you choose XFS, it will also select exportfs, but it doesn't seem to do that. If you haven't gathered by now, I'm trying to upgrade from a default Slackware 10.2 2.4.x fresh install directly to the latest 2.6 kernel.

I've even tried to compile the kernel with everything set to defaults and just the filesystem supports to see if I can get it working, but to no success.
