Slackware install Kernel panic

After a lot of hassle, I finally managed to download & burn the slackware 9.1 install cds.

Anyway, I tried to install with CD 1. I went through all the steps to package selection. As the system packages was being installed I suddley got a black screen which basically said : kernel panic - cannot handle paging request at ....

Why did this happen? I formatted two of my partitions & used an existing partition for swap space. I did not 'enable' the swap partition though as did not think it necessary.

What should I do to try to avoid this again??

Hello!
Did you format the swap partition? Do this, and also try enabling the swap-partition. There really isn't any good reason to have it turned off (I don't think so, anyway...).
