slackware for 64 bit cpu


Does the current release of slack 10.0 work with amd 64 and or sempron socket 754 cpus? If not are they working on a release to support this?

Yes, the current release of Slackware 10 will run on the AMD64 and Sampr0n chips. . . however, while they will work just fine, the distro is not compiled to take advantage of 64 bit addressing. But I must say that you will not really notice the difference unless you need to use a stupid amount of RAM. (like over 16 gigabytes.)

I'm running Slack 10 on a AMD Athlon 64 3400+ right now, I can see a MASSIVE proformance difference from windows.

great thanks for the info. I am building a computer and cant stand to let myself have only windows on it and I am done fiddleing with fedora core. Slackware is going to be my newest venture i think.
