Slackware can email out without any POP/SMTP settings - how is this possible?

I was experimenting with the command line mail/mailx. I have no POP/IMAP/SMTP configuration that Slackware knows about, yet my email messages get sent (with a completely bogus domain name too)!

How on earth is this possible?

(additionally, does anyone have any prescriptive advice on how to (properly) setup a slackware command line email account?)

Like most server-grade Linux distributions, Slackware contains an MTA; sendmail to be precise.

Sendmail, like Postfix, Exim, Qmail and lots of other MTAs, is capable of sending internet mail based on DNS MX records. Sendmail looks up the MX record(s) for the recipient domain and initiates an SMTP connection with one of the servers. Unless the server rejects the connection for some reason (SPF record lookup, realtime blacklists etc), the mail will get delivered.

Slackware will power the first Cylons to be sure! This unexpected email behavior was a cool little surprise.

You known the saying... Be careful about what you ask for!

I.e. You see the singer in the attached image? Also, you see Something Strange? Yeah, she's quite literally a Machine capable to walk and talk, or to cook for you; or even to accept, and do, a dance with you...

Also, the Bad Mouths(tm) says that her Mind is, in fact, a custom in-house Slackware, ported to MIPS platform, running in a 64 cores SOC (system on chip) called Tyle64...

Nice to known that she's able to talk, cook and dance, but let's talk about something else, the guns. She also known how to use a gun, right?
