Slackware and XFree 4.2.0

Hi guys,
i' m using Xfree 4.2.0 on Slackware 8.1 but all runs on a P166 with 32 mb ram so the X server takes up to 3, 4 minutes to start.Really slower than the 3.3.6 version (but i haven't slackware 7.2 or 8.0 cd's at the moment). There is a way to make XFree start faster ?
It can depend from my video card? ( S3 Virge Shocker DX 4 mb)
That's all
Thanks
P.S.
i apologize for my reaaaally bad english

It's mostly going to depend on your system specs....I would guess ram and video are on the top of the list. My laptop has an 8 meg video card but 384 megs of ram and a 600 mhz PIII, so X runs decently. I'm quite happy with it.

a Pentium 166 is a real old computer. Slackware 8.1 use Kde 3.0 instead of 2.1 like Slack 8.0
Have you tried another GUI than Kde?

My problem isn' t whit the window manager ( i' m using Windowmaker that is really fast) My problem is only when i start the x server. It freeze the computer for 3, 4 minutes than load the window manager. After those minutes, i can use WindowMaker without problems. It takes only a lot of time to start, and i like to know if there is a way to make the X server faster during the starting process.
Thanks
