Yah, common problem. Check and reconfigure your lilo.conf file. Post if necessary with your correct info of where your root partition is located, kernel... etc ?
If you didn't create a boot disk to boot from in these cases, you can boot from the slack cd and try this at the boot: prompt off the cd:
boot: linux root=/dev/hdX
Where X is your root lacation.. like /dev/hda3 is where mine is on most of my systems.. etc.
Okay, i've read your msg to late, and just reinstalled..(thanks for the reply), but this time i seem to be getting a problem where my keyboard locks. I get to the kzx login: _ and underscore is blicking, but nothing i type seems to work. I really hope i don't need to do a fresh reinstall. Prior to kzx login: _ my keyboard works. Thanks again
I've had that once and it all came down to the keyboard got pulled out a bit.. sounds stupid but check that first.
Other than that, does the keyboard respond during bootup ? Like can you type something at the boot: prompt or even to get in bios to know its working ?
Yes, prior to loading of the kernal, the keyboard works perfectly. Its just when it get to the login section that the keyboard seems to lock up and can't type anything in.
I have a standard ps/2 keyboard but using a usb mouse(regular MS optical, not intellimouse). I've tried installing both the usb kernal and the standard kernal, but both has given me the same error(keyboard freezing), i can't even control alt delete out of it, and have to manuel reboot.
My HD is 13Gigs and paritioned as follow
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 66 530113+ 82 Linux Swap
/dev/hda2 67 959 7173022+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 960 1342 3076447+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda4 1343 1653 2498107+ 83 Linux
on hda1 = swap
on hda2 = / (root)
on hda3 = /usr
on hda4 = /home
This system is a standalone Linux Box, no other systems on it. a P2 450Mhz sytem with 256Megs of ram. Using Cable Modem, from roadrunner. the connection is DMZ ( de militerized zone ) not sure if thats what it stands for but it alls allow ports, from my router. I ran both in expert mode and simple mode. I even backed up my XF86Config file and any other possible conf file just incase i can refer to it to see how the mouse is setup or the graphic card is setup and its specs. But i can't even seem to get past the login screen nor log on to even modify any of the configs to set things strait. If there is any missing imformation that is needed to slove this little hair pulling problem, i'll glady provide it. thanks for the effort, really wish i can get this distro in instead of going back to redhat.
Okay problem fixed, was really stupid mistake. So after half a pack of cigarettes and 2 bottles of redbull and a good night sleep, it seems like i made the mistake of enabling GPM ( general purpose mouse server ) when i was using a USB mouse =T guess it was mistake that should have been avoided but it was a learning experience, lol. Thanks trickykid for trying to help. No one could have forseen the stupid mistake i made. I don't know why i keep enabling it. Guess watching TV while installing slackware is not recommended for newbies installing slackware, heh.
