Did you try to workaround it by changing GTK_IM_MODULE from scim to xim?
It seems that non-security related bug fixes are applied to releases very slowly compared to -current.

Why open a new thread?

I suggested in this post to your first thread on the topic to upgrade to version 1.4.17.

In my proposed workaround (see below), I had to change variable PKGNAM in the Slackbuild script. It's no longer needed. The URL of the scim 1.4.17 source file is here. So you just need to comment the part of the GTK3 patch before running the Slackbuild script.

Quote:
To upgrade to 1.4.17, I used the official Slackbuild script without the GTK3 patch and I changed the PKGNAM to "scim-scim". For whatever reason, when I download the tar.gz source file, it comes up as scim-scim.

I then renamed the built package from scim-scim back to scim:

Code:
mv /tmp/scim-scim-1.4.17-x86_64-2.txz /tmp/scim-1.4.17-x86_64-2.txz
OK, it's quick and dirty but the purpose was to rapidly have the upgraded package.

Here are my changes to the official Slackbuild:
Code:
PKGNAM=scim-scim
...
# Upstream patch to fix crashes in gtk3 apps.
##zcat $CWD/scim-disable-subdir-objects.patch.gz | patch -p1 --verbose || exit 1

Maybe the OP is as lazy as me who would rather avoid upgrading if possible. Upgrading is a good idea to fix this bug, and may or may not introduce new bugs.
