If that's the case, it's looking more and more like it is a hardware issue. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising considering that setup is probably pushing 12-14 years.

However, your problem might just be the RAM, not some major system failure (I just had my circa 2008 mobo die on me a month ago). If you have multiple sticks, try taking one out and testing it. If it has errors, try the other stick.

I was originally thinking that it might've been because of some compiling option that Pat changed between 13.37 and these newer versions (although, I'm not smart enough to know what), but if older memtests are failing as well, it is possible it is hardware, not software causing your problem.

If you can not change the memory you can probe to change settings in the BIOS to relax the memory subsystem parameters (disable options such as prefetch and suchlike).
