Slackware 13 on VirtualBox

Hi guys, I installed slackware 13 on virtual box and the problem now is that I can't run it. When I start the virtualbox (it's set to boot the hard disk) I get the error "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted.". I'm wondering is there a problem with the virtualbox, or it's the slackware's boot loader (LILO)?

Sounds like lilo hasn't been installed - or maybe just not to the MBR. Start the Slackware guest with the CD/DVD image/disc that you created the guest with and follow the onscreen instruction for booting to an already installed Slackware system. Something like "hugesmp.s root=/dev/sda2 rdinit= ro" if the root is "/dev/sda2". Then adjust /etc/lilo.conf and install lilo to the guest's MBR.

Yes,

The message you mention suggests that the virtual machine can't find anything useful on your virtual hard drive. You may have to reinstall if bgeddy's suggestion doesn't work for you.

I've been running Slackware 13 and Slackware64 on VirtualBox since they came out with no problem. LILO works well when installed on the Master Boot Record (MBR).

After trying several different Linux distributions under VirtualBox, I've found Slackware to be the most straight-forward and easiest installation (okay Ubuntu was pretty simple to install as well, but only the latest version ever worked VirtualBox's display correctly and I was never sure what the installer was actually doing).

Good Luck!

1. Boot again from the CD/DVD

2. run

# fdisk -l

and record the results in case the following instruction fails, post it here.

3. mount your intended root partition in /mnt

4. # chroot /mnt

5. Rerun lilocong and save in MBR

# liloconfig
