Slackware 13 + kernel 2.6.27

I would like to know if it is safe to downgrade the stock kernel that ships with slackware 13? I would prefer to be running the current LTS kernel. I have been having some stability issues with the stock kernel and 2.6.27 hasn't let me down on other distros I've used so far.

I don't know about 2.6.27, but I'm currently running 2.6.28.10 without any issues on Slackware 13.0.
