It means that Pat is getting very close to releasing Slackware 12.1; he doesn't want to make any major changes until after 12.1 is released.
12.1 is coming soon, methinks:-)
He'll continue development in -current after 12.1 is released.

If I understand Pat correctly, he's saying do NOT use -current right now as 12.1 will be released shortly. Hold off on your upgrades until then.

No he is not saying that at all.

He is saying that the time is right for -current to become 12.1 and he will not be upgrading anything else (except for critical bug fixes) until the next -current cycle begins. So Hitest was on the money.

Not exactly. Slackware development just one long -current change log with "snapshots" released as stable versions when ever Mr Volkerding and company feel that the configuration is stable enough - like now. For a decent period of time after a stable release, nothing much at all happens in -current. Then development starts again and -current "starts up". Look at the change logs for earlier releases and you can see what I'm talking about. Changes in the beginning can be significant and things can be buggy and broken. That's what he's referring to when he says saving upgrades for when current restarts. He does not want to introduce bugs now by making any major changes.

If you're running -current at the moment you are most likely running exactly what 12.1 will look like when it arrives in your mailbox weeks from now (if you've ordered it of course).

Hi,

The iso(s) are not up to date. Read the changelog, it is not the same as the '-current'. I would wait until the iso(s) are updated.

Getting my OpenBSD 4.3 systems upgraded/installed from the cd's and then I can get Slackware upgraded

they should be, only problems i have had with slackbuild scripts is when the app im trying to compile has changed in some way - like with speex, they have moved a few files about and so it kicks out, little edit to the build script and all is fine
