Slackware 12.1: Problem with MySQL Installation

Hi Guys,

Through the process of my installation of mysql, i got this error:

checking "LinuxThreads"... "Not found"
configure: error: This is a linux system and Linuxthreads was not
found. On linux Linuxthreads should be used. Please install Linuxthreads (or a new glibc) and try again.

Any thought about this, im looking in the internet but cannot find one.

thanks for your untiring support.

What version are you trying to install and how are you trying to install? By source? By using a tgz package for Slackware?

Hi Trickykid,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The version is mysql-4.0.27.

Here are the procedures of my installation:

to install this directly on the command line type:
- cd /usr/local
- wget http://mirror.trouble-free.net/mysql...-4.0.27.tar.gz
- gunzip mysql-4.0.27.tar.gz
- tar xvf mysql-4.0.27.tar
- cd mysql-4.0.27
- groupadd mysql
- useradd -g mysql mysql
- "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --enable-large-files --enable-shared=yes --with-readline"
- make
- make install
- scripts/mysql_install_db
- chown -R root /usr/local/mysql
- chown -R mysql /usr/local/mysql/var
- chgrp -R mysql /usr/local/mysql
- cp support-files/my-medium.cnf /etc/my.cnf
- /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql &
- ln -s /tmp/mysql.sock /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock
- you are done

But when I reached the command "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --enable-large-files --enable-shared=yes --with-readline" (highlighted above) then it will run a lot of questions and at the end i got this error.."LinuxThreads.."Not Found".

I hope you could help me with my prob.

regards,

That tells me it most likely doesn't like the version of glibc you are running. It says to update but you most likely have a newer version since you're technically installing an older version of mysql.

hi Trickykid,

I think the best thing for me to do is to use mysql 5.x instead of mysql 4.x. Do you have sample command to install mysql in Slackware 12.1?

thanks,

I'd suggest installing the official version or tgz package from Slackware.

installpkg mysql-5.0.51b-i486-1.tgz

You can get it from here: http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/sla...51b-i486-1.tgz

Make sure you don't already have it installed as well. You can check in /var/log/packages and do an ls listing to view installed packages.
