Slackware 12.1 display problems

I have a Slackware 12.1 machine that is principally used as a server; I rarely use the display. Generally I ssh into it from another machine to perform some task or store some programs. Recently I used my KVM witch and decided to actually sign onto the console. The display was blank. I think it must be asleep or in one of the power savings modes. Short of re-booting the machine, is there any way to 'refresh' the display?

Thank you.

Don't know about KVMs but one of my machines has a buggy DPMS and when it enters into power saving mode all is over and I have to reboot. I've simply put xset -dpms into /etc/X11/xsession and just leave the monitor switched off to save power. Perhaps some other xset command might help you more, see man xset for some DPMS related options.
