Lightbulb slack64 14.1 - SoundConverter 2.1.5 - (Error: "No module named ui") - engage problem

Hi guys (and girl's too)

I'm user of slack from month.
My distro is slackware64 14.1 with huge k. 3.10.17.

I installed a two day's ago fresh slack on my SSD, and after install i'm update my slacko with slakpkg update (width slackpkg update/install-new/upgrade-all an clean-system at the end)

Until today everything work's really fine.
Until i have great idea to install SoundConverter 2.1.5 from SBo.
I care of all dependencies (i think) - but when i finish installing this soft and run it on terminal, i see this:

Code:
root@slack:/home/szymek/Downloads# soundconverter
SoundConverter 2.1.5
SoundConverter needs pygtk and gnome-python >= 2.24! (Error: "No module named ui")
OK - don't panic i think
so i decide to inspect every package who installed by invoke "upgradepkg --install-new . . . etc." to check where problem is ;]

and this is stand before my creepy eyes:

Code:
root@slack:/home/szymek/Downloads# ls -l
total 29752

Do you have pygtk installed? It is part of the Full Slackware install under the l/ series.

http://packages.slackware.com/?r=sla...0-x86_64-1.txz

If you don't have that installed, it might require recompiling some of the dependencies. If you weren't already aware, it might be worth looking into sbopkg and sqg. Both are part of the sbopkg program that is designed to download and install programs from slackbuilds.org. sbopkg is the main program that you can use to search for and install programs, where sqg (which is located under /usr/doc/sbopkg-0.37.0/contrib/sqg, which I usually just symlink it to /usr/local/bin, so I can call it anytime) can generate queue files based from the "requires" sections of the programs in slackbuilds.org. It will work recursively all the way through all required programs.

See the following for more info.

img: http://i.imgur.com/A1JArqB.png

I have one little thought ;]
Is possible that the all problems (with start Catfish and Soundconverter) i that i use SSD disk (?) instead my previous HDD (WD FZEX) ?

Today i check all depends in console as a root, i notice no missing packages so... ?!
On HDD i have also installed Catfish & Soundconverter - and this progs work's without a problem ;]

one way or another - thanks fo your time

cheers!

SSD won't make a difference. The OS just looks at the files, not the medium they're stored on (it wouldn't even care if the files are on a CD unless it needed write ability to that location).

According to this way old message, this error could crop up when things are installed in the wrong order. It says you need pyorbit installed before you compile gnome-python (although, pyorbit is listed as a requirement of gnome-python, so it should've been installed before).

How did you determine the order that the programs should be installed? If you did it all manually, it might be worth trying again with sbopkg after generating a queue file with sqg.

Hi

I've done exactly as you said.
I've removed from the system (using Pkgtool) every package step_by_step which was connected with Soundconverter and (by the way) Catfish packages, next i rebuild, and install using SBopkg (with resync) with proper dependency:

Soundconverter:

Code:
lame-3.99.5-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz
a52dec-0.7.4-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz
aften-0.0.8-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz

Dependency resolution can be quite the pain sometimes. It's nice when tools like sbopkg get all that worked out for you.

Glad you got everything working
