hey Bruce!
Sorry if its a mess, its working and to be honest, its been like that for at least 2 years now and it started with some testing/discoveries when I started linux (slack).... I agree there might be some improvement to be done....
basically, this is my main machine, its a laptop Dell XPSm1730 with 2X SATA2 Hitachi 200GB each.
The /boot (/dev/sda1) is on the first HDD (sda) and its NOT a raid or anything else, its just a simple 128MB partition formatted as ReiserFS.
output of /sbin/blkid:
Code:
/dev/sdb1: UUID="0195e33b-1467-d075-21a1-e2e5616e4e97" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
/dev/sdb5: UUID="50f94d9e-9468-5d36-ecd2-107ee9460340" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
/dev/sdb6: UUID="64371ad0-5203-c7fa-f26b-713fdff7f666" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
/dev/sdb7: UUID="05e1b135-b665-4d17-83e8-d02003e65d7b" TYPE="reiserfs"
/dev/sda1: UUID="80cf325b-2422-4d4d-baf2-80852e73b3df" TYPE="reiserfs"
/dev/sda2: UUID="d85c71c6-de04-48da-878a-7a7b7659bc24" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda5: UUID="50f94d9e-9468-5d36-ecd2-107ee9460340" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
/dev/sda6: UUID="64371ad0-5203-c7fa-f26b-713fdff7f666" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
/dev/sda7: UUID="4d34c80a-591d-419a-8fac-6ad62923c36b" TYPE="reiserfs"
/dev/md0: UUID="8907140d-1738-41fc-b681-c4433fd39425" TYPE="reiserfs"
/dev/md1: UUID="6efe1e72-91dc-4409-94d4-e4d98c281bff" TYPE="reiserfs"
I have NO idea what /dev/sdb1 does as a linux-raid-member.... its supposed to be a SWAP partition... ?????? Everything else is accurate and correct.
The goal for my machine? Nothing special, since I have 2 HDD's I wanted to try out the raid0 with the kernel to see if it improves the performance and like I said, I setup this a long time ago and never changed it...
Please see attached picture... Its a visual representation I made one time when I was boored and had nothing better to do (it also helped me to understand where I was going)
Any more questions, please feel free to ask!
Thanks again!
