Slack 10 CUPS problem , lpr

I did i fresh install of slackware 10 the other day and am haveing printer probems. I went to cups vie firefox and added my printer and named it hp. I printed a test page and it worked great But lpr will not print anything.
Here is what happens , note seth is a one line txt file
Code:
bash-2.05b$ lpr -Php seth
Status Information, attempt 1 of 3:
sending job 'seth@athlon+284' to hp@localhost
 connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
cannot open connection to localhost - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
and accepts connections from this host and from non-privileged (>1023) ports
Waiting 10 seconds before retry
Can some one help me.

echo "test" | lp -dprintername

you will still have lpr capabilities but right now they are tied to the lprng program. if you remove lprng and reinstall cups you will have lpr capabilities that comes with cups and it will be tied to cups.
