Hi, Probably about my 10th attempt at installing the Slack 9.0 from a magazine coverdisk. Previous problems included running out of space on 500MB hard disk several times, never mind, even though I can get a functional win98 setup in less than half that space. Maybe I should try and forget the retro hardware for the time being! On 2.1 G hardisk could get X to come up, but no internet, but with hind site that could have been a dodgy PCI slot on the pentium 133 . Now using 17GB hard disk and a pentium 233, did basic install, with packages, a, and the X stuff, and did option ALL in the installations options, and amazing it works, with windowmaker, etc, I have even downloaded mozilla firebird and got that to work ). I didn’t install the developer stuff however, but I need it now, etc etc. My problem, the nice "setup" program, that you can enter from the (dos! type) prompt has gone, or can no longer be found, or does not respond. Does any one have any idea where it should be. I don't think it has ever vanished in all my previous attempts at an install. Oh yes and one more thing, when the kernal boots up and you get all those interesting messages before the login, are they stored any where? I can't use the scroll lock and rewind through them (using 1024x768 screen size).
cheers dc
Linux system:
Pentium 233MMX,
192MB ram
SMC ez ethernet card (tulip),
Coyote linux router/firewall on single floppy pentium 133,
NTL cable modem.
and Various win 95/98 boxes, hopefuly soon to be converted when I get a bit more up to speed...

Once you have installed successfully, the setup program is no longer available/required.
Maybe you could tell us more on what actually you wanted to do next, and maybe we can help you with the commands/methods.

Cheers, I'll try the shift page up. Re what I am trying to do, I think I need to compile sylpheed, and also to try to get sound card working.... so it is useful to see all the messages of what it found on boot. Off on holiday for a couple of days now, so I will have to continue my exploration of the slack on my return....
If you want to see what your computer has done on recent bootups, there are two places to look. You can run dmesg from the command prompt. You should pipe it to less like so:
