Question Setting up an afp file server to work with Leopard.

Hello. I am trying to share my Slack 12.1 home folder with a macbook using netatalk. As far as I understood the shared folder has to be added to /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default and the /etc/rc.d/rc.atalk script has to be started. Nevertheless Leopard's Finder cannot see my server when I provide its IP. Do I need additional tweaking?
I was using nfs before and it was working properly.
