Sendmail and hosts.allow/deny

Hello.
pretty much noob here, but isearched the forum, and googled, but couldnt find answer.

i followed shilos guide up there to get sendmail working.
i only use the pop3 server (dont need smtp/imap4) and got it to work. and here comes the problem.
I set up my "hosts.allow" file like this:
Code:
# hosts.allow	This file describes the names of the hosts which are
# allowed to use the local INET services, as decided by
# the '/usr/sbin/tcpd' server.
#
# Version:	@(#)/etc/hosts.allow	1.00	05/28/93
#
# Author:	Fred N. van Kempen, <waltje@uwalt.nl.mugnet.org
#
#

ALL : 127.0.0.1
ALL : 212.226.x.x
sendmail : ALL : ALLOW
ALL : 10.10.10.
# End of hosts.allow.
and my hosts.deny simply says :
Code:
 ALL:ALL EXCEPT localhost:DENY
local network is 10.10.10.0/24
work is 212.226.x.x,
and these two places works with all services,
but i cant login to sendmail from other adresses.

If i blank out hosts.deny it works fine

i want to be able to get mail wherever i am

hey im also a newb and followed shilo's tutorial, and just like you i wanted to be able to get my mail from anywhere. one think i dont understand is why you didnt use stmp (really i dont understand what it does exactly). but just from that bit of config you posted i recommend that you go to http://www.abuse.net/relay.html and check to see if you're in danger of becoming a relay site. as i said im still a newb so if you already know how to not be a relay or if my post is seriously unnecessary i apologize.

no answers are unnecessary

smtp is the art of sending mail. ergo, no smtp, no sending, no blacklisting and so forth. also this helps preventing mailingworms from using my box. (if it cant send mail, it is of no use..)
i use the mailserver to receive mail, and i use my ispīs smtp server.
(in shilos guide you set up your local smtp to relay, forward, to your isps smtp, so, in the end i thought i might as well just config thunderbird to use my isp diiectly.)

i know i am bad at describing, but i hope this clarifies the difference between smtp and pop (imap is a different stoy )

Is the output ok with /usr/sbin/tcpdchk -v ?

Also you could try put all IPs in one line as :
Code:
ALL : 127.0.0.1, 212.226.x.x, 10.10.10.
sendmail : ALL
# End of hosts.allow.
and hosts.deny :
Code:
ALL:ALL

Thank you

aparently, the daemon isn´t called "sendmail" but popa3d,
so i changed the line to:
Code:
 popa3d : ALL
and now it works.

and todays new command learnt:
tcpdchk
