scroll mouse only wheels down
I just transferred my Logitech ps2 scroll mouse from my Fedora Core tower to my Slackware laptop. It worked fine on my tower, but on my laptop it will only wheel down. I put these lines in xorg.conf to make it scroll:
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Any ideas??
Oh, I'm using Fluxbox 0.1.14 and kernel 2.4.30

That's odd, it should work with those lines... Are you sure you didn't drop your mouse, possibly damaging it internally?

Try setting Option "Buttons" "5" and/or Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"

The problem is in the console too when I boot. I think either GPM or my old Compaq hardware is the problem. I tried pkgtool and redid the mouse set up as imps2 and as ps2 after booting each time. Problem wasn't fixed. In console, as soon as I move the mouse the lines at the top of the screen get hi-ligted. It's actually a USB mouse with a ps2 converter on it....I've used it that way for years with no problem. This laptop only has 1 USB slot which I don't want to tie up with a mouse.
The mouse is fine on my tower-I just used it there an hour ago and didn't drop it.

ok-now the mouse scrolls both ways and works in the console. I took the ps2 adapter off and plugged it into the only USB port I have. Then I reran pkgtool>setup>mouse and picked USB...reboot.
Could this 3 year old adapter be bad?

Use xev to see how X sees scrolling as button presses.

Well, this is strange. I put the ps2 adaptor back on and reran the mouse script and picked imps2. Rebooted. The mouse worked fine in the console. startx. Every time I moved the mouse a menu popped up but I couldn't select anything. CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. Reran mouse config script and picked ps2 mouse. Rebooted. Mouse worked fine in console and X.
Ran xev and all responded ok as a ps2 mouse (scrolls up and down)-hopefully it'll stay this way.
