According to top udevd is using the most %CPU at %17.0. Can I safely kill udevd or do I need that?
udev is used to dynamically create device nodes as well as load and unload modules for your hardware while the system is running. If you aren't planning on plugging in or removing any hardware while the machine is running, you don't actually need it.

In the case of a server, where you have a pretty much static hardware configuration, dynamic module loading is generally unnecessary. In the case of a desktop system, then you would want to keep it enabled.

Thank you, H_TheTexMeX_H and Everyone:-)

Just finished a clean install of Slackware 11.0, used the JFS file system and the 2.6.18 kernel, used XFce4. Everything works very well indeed:-)
I killed every start-up service except cups and inetd I think. You guys rock
I've gone from having a computer with 70% CPU usage to a new shiny Slackware system that is using only 5% or less. Tons of free RAM too. I love Slack.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my mundane questions, I appreciate that:-)
