sb!live problem with midi playback

Hi, guys,
i'm not able to play midi files on my sb!live. I tried to load the soundfonts but console return me this output:
Quote:
sfxload /usr/lib/sfbank/8MBGMSFX.SF2
/dev/sequencer: No such device or address
Devices exists and souncard is correctly recognised by kernel. Any idea? Have a nice day

2.6.11.7

Packaged. Slackware current

It's not important because all the options of the my sound card is built in in the kernel!

it has been a very long time since i have
tried compiling sound into my kernels...

i have found that leaving it out of the kernel,
d/l'ing and compiling alsa manually to be
much much more successful.

iirc, you might run into problems like this
if you compiled both alsa and oss in.

'asfxload' is for alsa
'sfxload' is for oss (or oss emulation)

Add your user to the group "audio". (should be audio, you can check by typing "ls -l /dev/sound".)

All of the files in /dev/sound should belong to root, but be part of group "audio" and have read-write for group. If your user is a member of the audio group, you'll be able to use those devices.

Hi nemesi,

I have the same problem than you...

To play a midi file as a non-root user, I have to log in as root, start KDE and play a file using kmid (maybe some other software could do the job, but it didn't work with pmidi...)

From this point, I can play midi files using any software on any user account, until I reboot...

It suggests me that under root permissions, the kmid softwares does something special that, if we could isolate, it would probably solve our problem... (if I just use kmid with normal user account, before using the 'trick', it doesn't produce any sound...)

By the way, the "test midi" button in KDE control center never worked... is it the same for you ^
Did it work with anybody using:

Slackware 10.1
KDE 3.4 upgraded from precompiled packages
Sound blaster live (emu10k1)
awesfx 5.0
