Talking SB AWE64 MIDI no sound-fixed it

Hi all, just a note on MIDI in Slackware 10.0 and the AWE64 sound card...

Installed everything of Slackware 10.0.
After install to get MIDI and sound for that matter working do the following:
*Don't need a modprobe line anywhere to load the card*
1. Use alsaconf to setup the card. When KDE loads, so will sound (not sure but I think hotplug and udev need to be working?).

2. Check that system sounds are checked in KDE control center.

3. Use the test sound button to hear SB16 sound play kde's startup gingle.

4. MIDI button will not work just yet.

5. Click on hardware tab, and change the MIDI device to emu8000 on port 0, and instead of autodetect for hardware, change to ALSA (this is optional...maybe?).

6. Go ahead and save the settings, and open Kmid and set up to use the emu8000 on port 0 also.

7. Download the source file from "www . alsa-project.org /~iwai/awedrv . html" (no spaces) the utilities file AWESFX utilities ver.0.5.0c.

8. Use ark to decompress, and then use terminal and cd the directory and type ./configure then make check, then make install.

9. Go to /usr/local/sbin and run sfxload /<path to file>/synthgm.sbk (mine was in my windows partition). This file is what make the MIDI work.

10. Now find a *.mid file and open it the Kmid. It should play. If not, close Kmid and open it again. It that doesn't do it, from the command line type aplaymidi -p 65:0 <path to file>/file.mid and hit enter. It should play.

11. Put the following line in rc.local: /usr/local/bin/sfxload /<path to file>/synthgm.sbk so when you boot up, it's loaded automatically.

That should do it.

Maranatha
