Question: Why do we have so many libraries and programs that are still
at version number 0.x.x even after several years of being in wide spread use ???

I think you're complaining in the wrong place. Do you expect Pat to contact each of these projects individually and ask them to bump their version number to 1? Do you expect every project to listen if he did?
In KDE in the KMenu (kicker) if i right click on falkon i get the option to Open new tab, Open new window, Start private browsing.
This is not the case with firefox or seamonkey since they lack those action entries in the .desktop file, the org.kde.falkon.desktop also include icons for even better integration to kde that does look nice.
I think it should be added to the firefox and seamonkey .desktop files.
I could also see the use of adding -compose (New Message...) to thunderbird .desktop file like kmail does at right click.
Personally i often start web browser in private mode or start mail client to write a new message.
As a side note third party applications like alienbob chromium also has private mode (--incognito) on right click but it doesn't have the icon entry.

You can add custom .desktop files in your ~/.local/share/applications/

As others have said, the version numbers are determined by the upstream providers of the software. Usually a version number starting with 0 means that the software is not ready. This could be because of known bugs, fear of unknown bugs or the lack of planned future features. Opensource software might more often than commercial software provide versions marked as unfinished for a longer period of time. I would say there are two reasons for this:
1) Open source software are usually developed and released with a mindset "release early, release often". In the open source world this mindset does not only give feedback, but also contributed patches fixing bugs and adding features.
2) Commercial software are usually developed by developers wishing to produce as good quality code as open source developers. However, all commercial software developers have a "bean counter" telling them that they cannot wait with the release until the software is perfect, instead the release shall be done when it is "good enough".
Instead of accepting values of "yes/no/auto", they take
"enabled/disabled/auto". Please change your build scripts
accordingly if you use these options.
* Use gi-docgen to generate documentation.
* Register key grabs using the focused window, rather than the root window.
This should prevent the window from losing focus when a key grab is used.
* atk-adaptor: Handle sockets in GetChildren.
* Improve documentation of the dbus interfaces.
* Various code clean-ups. Some unused code has been removed.
If I am not wrong this is a dev version of gnome. They still use in a lot of modules this odd/even numbering scheme.
As I know slackware is not very inclined to include development libraries.
