Actually i'm not asking how to set them, i just have something else to ask :-/ Anyway i just built a new system with a Geforce FX5200 video cards. My refresh rates are set as the manufacturer states, however at the laft and right side is my monitor i notice some quiver, especially when there is a window sitting there. I mean you have to look closely, but it is there.
As of yet i am only running my card with the generic nvidia driver from the install (Slack 9.1)...does anyone know if this might be the problem, if not is there a way to stop that quiver, does anyone else have it.? Apart from that everything is running like a dream.
Do you have any speakers or other electrical equipment near your monitor? Electricity induces a magnetic current, which can distort the image on your monitor. If that's not the issue, have you used the panel buttons (on the front of the monitor) to try to adjust things to eliminate the quiver? My point is just that it may simply be a matter of tweaking some of the monitor controls than it is of a faulty driver, etc. -- J.W.
Cheers, i'll give it a bash. It seems that the centre of the screen is okay but the edges aren't :-/ I have a laptop and a printer next to the screen, i'll move them aswell.
Another question - is this a brand new monitor, or one that you've had a while? It you've had it a while and it was working well before, then you can rule out a manufacturing defect but if it's brand new maybe it's a lemon and you should exchange it for a new one. I'm only guessing here (obviously) but it's a thought. Of course, maybe the monitor is fine but you're just using the minimum refresh rate that your monitor supports rather than the max, and you're noticing the flicker. -- J.W.
It's a new monitor, my old one had the same problem, but it was old. I'm using the recommended resolution and refresh rates (1280 x 1024 : 85mhz) and my config file is set to the way it should be (30-97 : 50-150).
It is really minimal though and stands out more with a white background, seems to be okay with colour. Anyway it's hard to explain, i supposed i could email tech support for my monitor as see what they say.
Actually just before i go and watch the football...lol, i logged out of X and close inspection of the screen (command line) shows that the centre is smooth and the text towards the edges has a flickery quiver so to speak. So i take it it must be the monitor.
