Hi all

I just recently switched to slack form mandrake and wow what a difference in speed !!

As always i have a few questions...

What is a good digital camera program to use in slack , i havent been able to find one on the distro. Currently i set up my camera so that i can mount the mem card and pull the images from it (dont mind doing this but there was a gkam or gphoto that i used to use in mandrake.)

Also as i havent removed mandrake i have mounted the bin directory on the mdk hd and am able to use the programs there (I am assuming that all the programs will run in slack (Will they or am i causing problems ??)

If i dounload the source or binaries where do i copy this to in the directory structure before installing the source.

Anyway im glad i tried the slack , it seems so much friendlier than the mandrake disto (Not dissing mdk or anything but i like the speed and i havent needed to recompile or anything yet)

Thanx for the help

ahh heres one more thing , anyone noticed that when you scan an image and save it as a tiff file you cannot view it on a widoze machine. ??

cheers

1. Someone has made Slackware packages for GTKam and libgphoto2. Check LinuxPackages. The GTKam package was made for Slack 9.0 but should work on 9.1.
2. This might cause problems. If one of these programs needs a certain library then it will look for it on your Slack machine. That's fine if you have that library, but bad if you don't. Basically the program won't run in that case.
3. Don't worry about where to put the source. Just untar it wherever, run './configure --prefix=/usr; make' and then instead of 'make install', get checkinstall. It does what 'make install' does but first makes a Slackware package so uninstallation is easy.
