Wow. Now I hate Gnome way more than before. I installed Gnucash on my system recently and after I tried to uninstall it, my printer doesn't work anymore. Gotta redo my machine now from scratch too, cause I'll never figure out what Gnome messed up. Bah, humbug.

Just a thought the next time you fiddle with KDE menus.

KDE provides no straightforward method to modify the default menus in a global manner. All menu modifications you make will be stored in your home directory in the ~/.config/menus directory.

A work-around I discovered to make global changes to the menu is to perform those changes---as normal user is fine---and then as root move the resulting applications-kmenuedit.menu file from ~/.config/menus to /opt/kde/etc/xdg/menus. The latter directory is where the KDE menu is stored.

Similarly, if you want to restore the original menu structure in KDE, merely delete the applications-kmenuedit.menu file from ~/.config/menus.

I hope this helps.

I'm fairly certain that there is a good chance it can be fixed.

GnuCash isn't "GNOME", so it's not really fair to lump them together. In fact, GnuCash doesn't even use hardly any of the same libraries as GNOME 2 (as it's still a GNOME 1.x application).

Perhaps you could direct us to the GnuCash packages that have caused your printing problems?

I used gnashley's mega-package and it wanted me to do something with gnome-print. I later uninstalled it and had major printing problems afterwards. I redid the whole install from scratch(only took 2-3 hrs) and now it prints test pages but still says "client-error-bad-request" and the log also says "No File!!!" when I try lpr. It possibly could have been complicated by trying to install gnumeric at the same time from 10.1 slack packages. I have actually gotten kind of fond of the apps, but when I look further into Gnome, I don't like HAL, PAM, and the messed with versions of X11 and shadow. When is somebody going to redo Gnucash? It is nearly impossible to install without "divine intervention" and crashes all the time when you manage to actually get it installed and running.

I also have figured out how to combine off-the-shelf independent apps to get desktop suitable for both me and my less tech-oriented family members. Namely IceWM, automount, XFE, emelFM, firefox, dillo, OpenOffice.org(blech), gimp, gaim, and xchat.
