I've been using qwest dsl with a static ip for years with linux. I bought a linksys 4 port router and run a home network. I've had total reliability. I use dhcp to access the router from the client boxes. The router setup was a breeze, and you can use windows or linux boxes with it. I highly recommend it. The static ip is great, but a dynamic one is fine also, and is cheaper. I'm sure the router has easy setup for that, also. If you hook your box up directly to a dsl modem, you will need a really good firewall to avoid hackers.
