Quick Apache + PHP question

I was installing AWStats on my webserver, Apache 1.3, PHP4, and some of the install scripts for AWStats modified my httpd.conf file. I went through it and changed most of the stuff back that it messed with but I noticed it added the line
Code:
AddModule mod_php4.c
which wasn't in the original configuration for PHP4. I have the
Code:
LoadModule php4_module libexec/apache/libphp4.so
that came with the original mod_php.conf and PHP runs fine... any ideas why the
Code:
AddModule mod_php4.c
would be needed?
