Question about files in /boot

Now in /boot I have 4 files:
System.map
vmlinuz
boot.0300
map
I am wondering what the two boot.0300 and map are for so I put them in /root and rebooted. The system booted, everthing ok but some error messages appeared during boot but they were not written in the system log, don't know why.So can somebody tell me what are these files for ?
By the way,how can I control modules loading at start-up ? I remember theres was a array MODULES somewhere but I have forgotten where. In my modules.conf there is only the ALSA specific loading of modules.

Hi

/boot/map

In this files, LILO writes during its installation (when running /sbin/lilo) the location of the kernel and other data.

/boot/boot.0300

I don't know

/etc/rc.d/rc.modules
The modules are generally loaded from /etc/rc.d/rc.modules, but one can also load user-specific modules from /etc/rc.d/rc.local
