On BIOS.

Usually, the Intel motherboards have an option to choose the number of active cores.

Hello,

Check if ACPI is enabled and post the output of dmesg.

Try this:

Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
For me I see this:
Quote:
siblings : 4
core id : 0
cpu cores : 2
If that is not what is expected maybe you should review blacklists and boot parameters. (I use lilo which is the default for 14.2)

On my system I have 2 cores with 4 cpus, which agrees with /proc/cpuinfo

You can save the output of dmesg in a .txt file (256k max) and attach it.

Code:
$ dmesg|grep smpboot

$ lscpu
Can you give more info on the system and especially on the motherboard. Is the bios is up-to-date ?

Is the issue specific to -current ?

Do you experience same issue with another slackware version, or linux flavor. If you have a 14-2 install cd/dvd/usb at hand, check if dmesg returns same (cpu) info.

mobo is an asus p9d-m
cpu is an Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1220 v3 @ 3.10GHz

the issue does not seem to be specific to -current as ive tried other distros and same thing

just updated bios this morning

So, we debug a Debian kernel?

You are sure? The quote was the beginning of your dmesg.txt file from:
