Problems compiling iptables 1.4.0 with layer 7 patch

I'm attempting to setup a router for my internet connection using Slackware 12.1, iptables and the application layer packet classifier for Linux.

I've followed their instructions for the kernel version setup, but I've run into a bit of snag. When I download the iptables source, patch it and try to compile it I get this error:

Code:
make: *** No rule to make target 'extensions/libipt_layer_7_sh.o', needed by 'extensions/libipt_layer7.so'. Stop
I'm using iptables 1.4 (not the latest, but according to their documentation it's the latest tested version that works with their stuff).

I've put it into Google and got nothing. Should I just try the userspace version instead?
